Senior Citizen Alerts Apply for the 2008 Senior Assessment Freeze This assessment is based on income and is applied for yearly! If you didn't receive a form come to the Monee Township Assessor's Office to apply. Below are some of the eligibility requirements: (The complete eligibility listing is available in hardcopy at the Monee Township Assessor's Office) You must earn less than $55,000 total yearly income. You must own your property as your principle place of residence or you were liable for the payment of property tax. You do not qualify if your property is assessed under the mobile home privilege tax. Bring your proof of income forms (IRS 1040/Social Security 1099, Retirement 1099, Wages, Salaries from work, Interest and dividends received, Net Rental Income/Loss form)
Apply for the Senior Citizen Exemption Click here for form This exemption lowers the equalized assessed value of your property an additional $4,000 in the calendar year you turn sixty-five. Our Office can assist you in applying and verifying if you qualify for for further assistance, such as; Senior Circuit Breaker, License Plate Discount and/or Drug Assistance! The Monee Assessor's Office can assist in your application to these programs. New 2008 & 2009 Tax Exemptions Click on the NEW TAX EXEMPTIONS link to see the property tax relief for our seniors and families; referred to as House Bill 664 (P.A. 95-644) passed by the Illinois General Assembly. | Veteran & Disable Exemptions More Illinois veterans and disabled persons will be eligible for property tax relief as a result of legislation passed into law on October 17, 2007. Public Act 95-0644 creates three new homestead exemptions for Illinois' disabled citizens and qualifying veterans. The legislation also expands current homestead exemption to provide property tax relief for qualifying Illinois' homeowners and Senior Citizens. Come into the Monee Township Assessor's Office to pick-up the forms. or click on the links below. Submission DEADLINE is March 31, 2008! Veteran Exemptions Returning Veteran's Homestead Exemption (35 ILCS 200/15-167) provides a one-time $5,000 reduction in a property's equalized assessed value (EAV) to qualifying veterans who return from active duty in an armed conflict involving the armed forces of the United States. Veteran must complete an application upon their return home. Disabled Veterans' Standard Homestead Exemption (35 ILCS 200/15-169) provides a reduction in property's EAV to a qualifying property owned by a veteran with a service-connected disability certified by the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs. A $2,500 homestead exemption is available to a veteran with a service-connected disability of a least 50% but less than 75% or a $5,000 homestead exemption is available to a veteran with at least a 75% service-connected disability. A disabled veteran must file an annual application by the county's due date to continue to receive this exemption. The current Disabled Veterans' Homestead Exemption (35 ILCS 200/15-165) provides up to a $70,000 reduction in assessed value for federally-approved specially adapted housing will continue to be available through the local Veterans' Affairs Office. Disabled Person's Exemption Disabled Person's Homestead Exemption (35 ILCS 200/15-168) provides a $2,000 reduction in a property's EAV to a qualifying property owned by a disabled person. A disabled person must file an annual application by the county's due date to continue to receive this exemption. |
